World Book Day is on Thursday 6th March, 2025
As a child, I absolutely loved curling up with a good book. My favourites growing up were Malory Towers, the Faraway Tree and Famous Five. It’s safe to say that when there was a series of books, I wanted them all!
Over the years, life has got busier and I have dipped in and out of book escapism. However, I do love snuggling up with my three boys to read a book - so this is my reminder to do it more!
With World Book Day here on Thursday 6th March, here are some ideas to get us all back into the routine of reading for fun, escapism and learning.
1. Create a cosy nook!
I’m thinking cushions, blankets, warm lighting and an oil burner with a wax melt on the go! Switch devices to ‘Do Not Disturb’ and curl up with a good book, a warm drink and some chocolate!
2. Consider the time you have
When it comes to reading, my children are a chip off the old block. Sometimes, we want to dive head first into a great story, sometimes, we've only got the time and energy for a magazine and sometimes, we love nothing more than exploring a non-fiction book. Choose your reading matter carefully so that it is always a pleasure to take time out to read.
3. Use your local library
I am super guilty of wanting to buy all the books! However, I don’t have the funds for that habit - especially as I’ve got a fabric hoarding habit to feed too! Use your local library to introduce yourself to new authors, but also to get your hands on sewing books for ideas. The internet is a great resource, but I do love a book with real pages!
Sidenote: I’d LOVE to write a sewing book! Answers on a postcard as to how I make that a part of my future!
4. And finally...
Finding a regular reading time for ourselves and others in our lives makes a world of difference to our mental health and wellbeing. I love hearing my boys telling me about the books they are reading and I know that I sleep better when I read before bed instead of scrolling on my phone.
